To All Our Patrons,
We are making progress for opening the Library for patron browsing. We know that many of you are anxious to return to the building, but we still would like to encourage everyone to utilize our Curbside and Tailored Titles Services (Click here for more info.) And remind you what Governor Lamont has said of libraries reopening, “risks to patrons and employees cannot be fully mitigated. Patrons who choose to visit libraries during this time should be fully aware of potential risks. Individuals over the age of 65 or with other health conditions are advised to not visit libraries, but instead continue to stay home and stay safe.”
Please know that we care deeply about our community and are working daily to make sure that when we open it will be as safe for everyone as we can be. To this end, we think it is important for you to know that when we do open for “Browsing Time,” it will not be what you are likely expecting.
There will be areas of the Library that will be closed to the public. Right now, we are in the process of moving and storing furniture and taping lines on the floor to indicate 6 feet spacing. Ironically, we are singing a very familiar song for SBL – ‘Not enough space! How do we do this?’ But we continue to be creative and resilient.
We are daily working out necessary details and making progress. Supplies are being ordered and arriving. We are working on our policies and procedures and our training. We are also working on our distanced version of our Summer Reading Program.
Summer at the Library this year will be different. Public rest rooms will not be available. The Children’s Room and our stacks (shelved areas) will accessible to staff only. Patrons entering the building will be required to wear masks and engage in social distancing. Of course, sanitizing one’s hands will also be imperative.
However, all the materials from the Library will be available to you to check out. Summer reading challenges for all ages will still be offered with groovy prizes. Book groups and programs will be Zooming. We will all do the best we can and at some time in the future, shake our heads, musing, ‘remember when…’
In the meanwhile, we keep forging ahead. Again, we say, we truly care about our community and are working hard to provide service in the healthiest way possible. We thank you all for your support. Please watch here for more information coming soon.
