Sleuth of the Month ~ Jessica Speart

I heard Jessica Speart speak at a Book, Brushes and Boats event in New London a few years ago. I was taken with her sense of humor, easy speaking style and the fact that she was once a soap opera star. So how did the One Life to Live actress come to writing The Rachel Porter Series featuring a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent. In an interview with Kay McCleen Jessica explains that her character on the soap was killed off by a mad scientist with a fake arm. “There are those that shop when depressedI blow my money on trips to exotic locales. I decided the best thing to do was to take a trip out of town - far out of town.” She chose Africa and fell in love with the wildlife and landscape but became truly disheartened at the poaching and killing of elephants for their tusks. Determined to do something she decided to write an aritcle about endangered species. This led to investigative journalism and it was a quick jump to the Porter series. Rachel Porter has allowed Ms. Speart to write about many endangered animals and to travel to many locales. A gutsy character, exotic locales and well done mysteries should earn Jessica many new fans.
